Every Pendulum needs calibrating each year to stay compliant. We recalibrate any make or model in our dedicated laboratory — fast turnaround, traceable certification, minimal disruption.
Every Pendulum is meticulously calibrated in our purpose-built laboratory, conceived and built under our Senior Calibration Engineer, Keith Palmer — who has been calibrating Pendulum testers for over 20 years, is a member and advisor to the UK Slip Resistance Group, and contributed to the current Issue 6 of its Guidelines.
We work to the UKSRG Guidelines (Issue 6) — which name KSS as a UK Pendulum manufacturer — setting out the requirement for annual calibration and certification of all Pendulums. Because we manufacture these instruments ourselves, we understand every part we're checking.
We know a tester out of service is a problem, so we prioritise fast recalibration and return. Collection and return can be arranged for a fee.
You don't need to have bought from us. We recalibrate Pendulums of any make or model, sent in from anywhere in the world. Bought your tester from KSS in the last 12 months? Your first recalibration is free.*

Our calibration procedure is carried out to the international standards the industry relies on for floors, roads and aggregates.
The Slip Resistance tester must be calibrated annually by a competent technician.
Two checks keep a Pendulum trustworthy, and they're easily confused. Here's how they differ — and what we supply to keep yours valid between visits.
At least once every 12 months, the instrument comes to our laboratory, is calibrated to the methodology in BS EN 16165:2021 and certified. Send all the accessories with it — including the sample holder — so the certified verification tile is conditioned to match your own holder.
Before each day's testing, and after any transport or reassembly, you verify the Pendulum yourself against three reference surfaces, in order, tested wet with Slider 96 — even when you'll be testing with Slider 55. If the readings sit in range, you're good to test. If they don't, the instrument needs attention before any testing.
| Reference surface (wet, Slider 96) | Expected PTV |
|---|---|
| 1. Pink lapping film | 59–64 (or supplier target ±2) |
| 2. Float glass | 5–10 |
| 3. Certified Pavigrés tile | Target PTV ±2 |
We supply the certified consumables that keep verification valid — conditioned Pavigrés tiles, pink lapping film and prepared sliders — and recommend replacing the tile and sliders on the intervals set out in the UKSRG Guidelines. See accessories & consumables →
